Quit Smoking Programs
Quit smoking classes and support groups help you learn how to quit successfully. They help you change your habits and give you suggestions for dealing with physical withdrawal.
Below are some that are available to you, along with a schedule of
quit smoking programs offered by our Partners.
Freedom From Smoking Online
The American Lung Association has a FREE online version of their quit smoking
program. Visit www.lungusa.org and click on
“Quit Smoking” for more information.
Illinois Tobacco Quitline
The Illinois Tobacco Quitline offers help quitting with phone counseling.
They will help you develop a clear plan for quitting, determine the proper
dosage of nicotine products, and work on healthy behaviors to help prevent
relapse. Use of Quitline services can improve success rates up to 56
percent. Call toll free, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at 1-866-QUIT-YES or
1-866-784-8937. If you live outside Illinois, find a quit line in your
state by visiting www.naquitline.org.

Tobacco Treatment Specialist - To make an
appointment for private sessions with a tobacco treatment specialist, call

Quit Smoking thru Hypnosis - This three session
program teaches hypnosis techniques to help participants feel calmer, more
confident, and in control of their smoking habit through relaxation and positive
suggestions. Participants learn to relax and to be receptive to quitting
their smoking habit. If you have questions or would like to register,

Freedom From
Smoking -This program is an 8-week quit smoking program designed by the
American Lung Association. Call 800-323-8622 for more information.
Stop Smoking Support Group - This support group is for
those people who have attended a stop smoking program, have quit on their own,
or are trying to quit. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every
month except over the summer months. If you have questions, call

Lake County Health Department, Tobacco Free Lake County

Quit kits – These quit kits for both teens and
adults include basic information on how to quit and tips on how to get
started. Adult quit kits are available in both English and Spanish.
Tobacco Free Solutions – Based on the Mayo
Clinic treatment model, this is a seven-week quit smoking program for
adults. The focus is on education, addiction vs. habit, quitting and
staying quit. TFS is used mostly in the corporate setting with occasional
community groups. Call if you would like a group at your worksite.
Individual Counseling – One-on-one counseling is
available to Lake County residents and workers who are seriously interested
in quitting and need the help of a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist.
